This past September, I had the opportunity to participate in a food and photography workshop in Brooklyn, NY. The weekend was hosted by Sunday Suppers‘ Karen Mordechai and featured Béa Peltre from La Tartine Gourmande. A great group of bloggers and photographers spent two days learning tips from Béa and soaking up Karen’s delicious food and beautiful studio. I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to learn from an acclaimed blogger and photographer and as a bonus I knew with Béa teaching that gluten free food would abound.
We started at the wonderful McCarren Park farmers market selecting vegetables and fruits for the day’s recipes and photo shoot. Béa then took us to Karen’s studio.
We then started in on creating a story about gazpacho with the last tomatoes of summer. Béa gave a crash course in her style of staging. Then it was our turn create a story and photograph it.
On the second day after a critique at the studio we created another photo shoot at a near by park. Some of the delicious food included a watermelon and feta salad and a risotto rice pudding with stewed fruit. As you can see a lot of help went into staging such beautiful food.
The weekend was a wonderful vibrant experience. I took away so much on photography, food styling, and story telling.
